About a man fleeing from pursuers into a cave, aided by a glowing, floating entity, through caves associated with waterfalls and inhabited by (unseen ) monsters that roar or howl ! Eventually makes his way out. I'm pretty sure the title was something like The Chrysalid but not sure.
